The Bad Man's 100 Point Oenological Rating System

Here at The Royals we employ the following scoring system, in columnar form, usually on 11x17 paper, folded in half.

Base Score: 50 (for being some sort of liquid)

plus...

Up to the indicated number of points for each of the categories.  For example, if the wine is supposed to be dry and it's sweet, then it gets a low score for "Sweetness".  If a wine is supposed to be sweet, and it's only demi-sec, then it gets lower points for "Sweetness".

Color (3) (age/varietal)
Clarity (2) (age/filtration)
Aroma (3) (varietal)
Bouquet (7)(oak aging)
Sweetness (3) (residual sugar)
Acidity (3) (ph balance)
Tannins (Astringency) (5)
Body (7) (mouthfeel)
Finish (7) (signature)
Overall (10) (judgment) (pretty much a free-for-all point bucket so you can boost a wine you love, or levy your disdain.  This emphasizes the artistic judging over the technical)
General Notes/Final Impression (a chance to write whatever your muse inspires you to in the moment)
Rating (100) (add up the numbers you've written down above.  The maximum score is 100, the minimum is 50.  Neither is achievable)
Ranking (1-n) (i.e., rank the wines in this tasting from 1 to n)
Guess (guess, if the tasting is not double blind, which wine is which, before the unveiling)
Actual (write down, because you won't remember later, which wine was actually in which column)

The following is a work in progress - I haven't even begun it yet, so the numbers and categories are almost universally completely incorrect.  The above is what we use - each of us Royal's has a different take on how we attack a tasting.  So for now, until this missive is updated and the current statement removed, ignore the below and focus on the above.
