A.D.D. movie review – Ruang rak noi nid mahasan, 2003

For those of you fortunate enough to not know the Bad Man, there are two films that portray a fairly accurate view into my oozing grey matter when it comes to personality and obsession.  One of those films is American director Mary Harron’s 2000 vehicle American Psycho, based on the novel by Bret Easton Ellis with the screenplay written by Mary Harron and Guinevere Turner.  Now I don’t like Huey Lewis & the News any more than the next guy who hates Huey Lewis & the News, but it’s the thought process in Christian Bale’s character Patrick Bateman that I find so synchronous with my own.  For those who’ve watched the movie, I’m all about the scene where the sweat glides down his forehead upon realizing that the font on his colleague’s business card is more aesthetically pleasing than the ink splashed on that of his own.  The dialogue in the opening scene, at the restaurant, is precisely how I think in my own numb skull.  So I find a lot of similarities to my own bad self.  Except that my delusions aren’t about hacking up people and stuffing them into a closet…

I recently saw a movie that revealed more about me, for those assembling the CliffsNotes (©) on my life.  That is Thai director Pen-Ek Ratanaruang’s 2003 film Ruang rak noi nid mahasan, co-written by Pen-Ek Ratanaruang and Prabda Yoon.  This movie is an embarrassingly accurate portrayal of my inner psyche, from the tattooed hot Thai escorts in their school girl uniforms (all over 18, mind you) to the obsessive cleanliness and fear of any intimate personal contact as shown by the main character Kenji, played by Japanese actor Tadanobu AsanoLaila Boonyasak, btw, is super cute.  She plays the character of the Thai girl Nid.

Anyway, the movie is all about the me, so watch it if you dare.

Laila Boonyasak is gorgeous. I certainly hope you drafted her! Can’t wait to see the movie and discuss.

I didn’t take her in the draft – I will now, thanks for the reminder.  ;)

And where did you see her – in a movie?  Mostly the woman you see in previews and media for this film is the actress that plays the part of her older sister – actually she’s her older sister in real life too – Noi, portrayed by Thai actress Sinitta Boonyasak.

I haven’t seen her in anything to my knowledge but I looked her images up and she’s stunning. Can’t wait to see her in the movie.
